States are shortchanging the unemployed with hidden fees by issuing benefits on debit cards. I felt this one personally as California is issuing my EDD checks this way. It sucks, there are loads of hidden traps to fall into. Why on earth is it a good idea to hand hundreds of thousands of dollars to banks in float interest that they then use to invest in innovative new ways to charge us fees? Some politicians are getting new houses and nice cars in exchange for this. That’s right, I said it! They’re selling us out for campaign money and stuff. Bastards!
